Frequently Asked Questions

Home Boarding/Doggie Daycare - Dog Walking & Cat Feeding

Home Boarding/Doggie Daycare

Where will my animals be staying?

All our pet carers have lovely, comfortable, animal-friendly homes with secure back gardens. Each home is vetted thoroughly by our pet-focused team.  All our canine and feline guests are welcome to treat the house and garden as they would their own!  Cats will never be allowed outside for safety reasons. Dogs will be free to run around in the garden as much as they like.  All our pet carers live close to several great parks, fantastic for long walks!

Will my pets be boarded with any other animals/children?

It is strict Rovers policy that each pet carer can only accept one assignment at a time.  A small proportion of our pet boarders do have their own pets or children so please tell us if you would prefer your pet to be assigned to someone without pets or children!  The nature and temperament of our pet carers’ animals and kids is taken into very careful consideration, as will the nature and temperament of your own pets. Whatever your requirements, we will find your perfect match!

Will I meet the people who will care for my pet(s) in advance?

We actively encourage a pre-assignment meeting for both yours and our own peace of mind.  We feel that it is imperative that both parties are happy with the pets and the environment in which they will be staying.

Do we provide the food?

We request that you provide all food, bedding and other equipment (such as toys) for the duration of your pet’s stay.  This will provide the familiar comfort and scents of home, as well as maintaining your pet’s diet.

Will you walk my dog?

We will maintain all routines of feeding and walking to which your pets are accustomed, ensuring your pets are happy, well exercised and rested.

Will my dog be let off the lead?

Rovers has a strict policy of not allowing dogs off the lead without the explicit consent of the owners.  When you complete the Briefing form, you will be asked if you give consent.

Do my pets need vaccinations?

Vaccinations are not necessary if your pets are not boarded with other animals. Because some of our carers have pets of their own, it is critical that you advise us of your pet’s vaccination status.

Does my pet need to be microchipped and insured?

Microchipping and pet insurance is strongly recommended, but is not essential.

Do you accept puppies and kittens?

Yes!  We are happy to care for animals of any age.  Please discuss any toilet training needs with us in advance.  Puppies and kittens under 6 months old will not be boarded with any other animals.

Is there a minimum/maximum stay?

We are happy to care for your pets for anything from one day to one year or even more!

Dog Walking & Cat Feeding

How long will you visit my pets for?

We will visit for one full hour, undertaking feeding, grooming, walking and changing litter as necessary.

Do we provide the food?

Yes -  please ensure that you have left sufficient food for your pets before you go away.

Will you play with my cats as well?

Provided that your cats are at home, we will spend the remainder of the hour playing with them or just keeping them company.

My dog does not walk for long.  Will you keep him company for the rest of the hour?

We will stay with your dog for a full hour.  We will play with a ball in the garden or any other toys, or simply sit and keep them company.

Will I meet the people who will care for my pet(s) in advance?

We actively encourage a pre-assignment meeting for both yours and our own peace of mind.  We feel that it is imperative that both parties are happy with the pets and the environment in which they will be staying.

Rovers has a strict policy of not allowing dogs off the lead without the explicit consent of the owners.  When you complete the Briefing form, you will be asked if you give consent.

My dog is not very socialised.  Will he be walked with other dogs?

Rovers only works for one client at a time, so your dog(s) will not be walked with other unfamiliar dogs.

I have four dogs.  Can you walk them all at once?

It is Rovers policy that one staff member can only walk two dogs at a time for health and safety reasons.  If you have more than two dogs, please call us to discuss your needs and we may be able to supply more than one staff member.

My cat has diabetes.  Do you have experience administering insulin?

We do currently have cat carers available who have many years experience of administering insulin and other drugs.
